In chapter 3 Percy ditched Grover at the bus stop, to go back to his house. Percy’s mom Sally’s parents died in a plane crash when she was 5. She went to high school until her uncle got cancer. Next he died. She married Percy’s dad and shortly later he went on a ship and got lost at sea. So Percy never saw his father.
When Percy got home his step dad Gabe was there with his friends playing cards. Gabe said, “Got some money for me?” “Here ” said Percy. When his mom got home that night she told him they were going to the cabin! One hour later Percy and his mom left for the cabin. Once they got there they went to bed. Percy had a dream that a bird and a eagle were fighting. He woke up and herd the doorbell ring. His mom got the door and there was Grover. Percy’s mom said, ” Both of you in the car now!”

Chapter one,
In chapter one Percy Jackson warns you about reading the book. He tells you to belive whatever you rmom our dad told you about birth. He made it very clear it is not very safe to be a half blood, which he is. Percy boards and goes to school at Yancy Academy for troubled kids. Yes, he is pretty troubled. He recounts past times of field trips, they didn’t go very well. He wants to be extra good on an oncoming field trip. Boy is he in for a suprise.
His class on a field trip to a muesem. He wants to be extra good but an annoying red headed girl named Nancy Bobofit is hard to ignore as she chucks pieces of her sandwhich at the back of him and his best friend Grover’s heads. Nancy is the pre-algrebra teacher’s class pet. Everytime Percy does anything to Nancy, Mrs. Dodds, the pre-algrebra teacher, says “Now sweetie”, and he knows he has a month of detentions for him.
When they they finish looking at the muesem a go outside for lunch Mrs. Dodds asks Percy to come see her and he knows he is busted. He follws her to the middle of the muesem were there is nobody there. She marches him to the section of the muesem were the Greek and Roman god statues are. She is making a sort of growling sound. As she looks at him her eyes are beyond evil.
“It was only a matter of time before we found you”, she said. Percy is confused. Then Mrs. Dodds begins to transform. She sprouts a pair of leathery black wings as her face tranforms into somthing so unhuman-like Percy supresses a sceam. The creature lunges at Percy. Percy dodges her as he hears a familiar voice behind him. It is Mr. Brunner and he throughs his pen at Percy. When Percy catches it, it is a sword. He runs the creature through at it dissapears. When Percy turns around Mr. Brunner is gone and the sword is apen agian. When he goes back outside no one seems to remember who mrs. Dodds is. When he askes Mar Brunner looks at him blanly and denies ever knowing a Mrs. Dodds.
I am summarizing chapter 9. In this chapter Percy is moved to cabin three by himself, because he is Poseidon’s only child. He got to pick his own activities. He had a dream that there was a very bad storm and two people who looked like wrestlers were fighting. Percy tried to stop them, but he could go no where. He heard a voice and the sand split and he fell. Percy woke up and he heard hoof knocks on the door. It was Grover telling him that Mr. D wanted to talk to him. When he got to Mr. D, he was offered a quest. He accepted the quest and then Percy had to go see the oracle counsel. The counsel told him that he must fight a god in the West. Percy returned to the porch of the house and Chiron gave him more details about the quest. Percy’s quest was for him to get back Zeus’ lightning bolt because Hades sent a Minion to steal the lightning bolt and Hades hid it in the underworld. Hades was trying to frame Percy and his dad, Poseidon. Grover had to help Percy complete his quest to get his searcher’s license’s. Percy wonders why they cannot tell the other gods that Hades has the lightning bolt. Chiron tells Percy that other gods cannot cross each others territory, but heroes can go anywhere. Grover promises Percy that he will not let him down. The entrance to the underworld is in the West, but it moves from age to age, like Olympus. Annabeth volunteered to go on the quest with Percy and Grover. Chiron tells them to get packed and that there is no time to waste.
I am going to summarize Chapter 2. In this chapter, Grover and Percy get on the bus and go to the city. On the way to the city, the bus broke down and they had to get off. The bus driver had to fix the engine. While he was repairing the engine, three old ladies that were across the street knitting socks were staring at Percy. Grover starting getting nervous and then one of the ladies snipped the yarn. Grover started panicking and he tells Percy to get back on the bus. At this time the driver pulls out a piece of hot metal. He then tells everyone to get back on the bus. When they are back on the bus, Grover makes Percy to promise to walk him home.
I’m going to summerize chapter 5.Percy is spoon fed some
weird food that he thinks is pudding ,but isn’t.And dreamed
of barnyard animals.Some wanted to eat him,the rest wanted food.Then this surfer dude that seemed to have a thousand eyes came in.When he got better, he finally gets to see Grover.Then he sees Mr.Brunner but Mr.Brunner tells Percy to call him Chiron.And he met Mr.D.Next Percy
finds out that Chiron is a horse.
Chapter 1- I Accidentally Vaporize My Pre-Algebra teacher response
Great summary Lily, but you might have forgotten that when the class goes out of the museum from lunch,Nancy Bobofit (mean girl Percy hates) accuses Percy of pushing him into the fountain. Some of the kids said they saw the water grab her into itself —- but Percy got in trouble anyway.
Otherwise your summary was great , good coice of vocabulary!
Chapter 3-Grover Unexpectedly Loses His Pants
Perfect summary Briana! But I would like to add that at the very end of the chapter, Percy discovered who Grover really was: he was a a goat from waist down, satyr. Besides that, I agree with your summary entirely.
Chapter 2- Three Old Ladies Knit the Socks of Death
Great summary Davis, but you might want to include a sentence saying the socks the old ladies were knitting were the socks of death. Other than that I totally agree with your summary.
Chapter 9- I Am Offered A Quest
Again great summary Davis. A couple things I would like to add is that when he went to the Oracle the Oracle also told him to face th god who has turned (Hades), find what was stolen ( Zeus’s master Lightning bolt) and safely return it. Oracle also told Percy he would be betrayed by one who calls Percy a friend and in the end Percy will fail to save what matters most. Other than that I entirely agree with your summary.
Chapter 12
We Get Advice From a Poodle
In this chapter, Percy, Annabeth, and Grover were camping in the woods. Grover told Percy how he was on a search to find Pan, the god of wild things. That night when Percy was sleeping, he had a strange dream. In the dream there was a deep, dark, very wide trench. He heard the voices of the dead. There was a glittering image of his mom. Her face looked like the Minotaur was squeezing her neck. When Percy woke up, he saw Grover with a small, pink poodle.
Grover said that the poodle’s name was Gladiola. Grover explained that he could talk to animals, while Gladiola was barking at Percy. Grover told percy that Gladiola’s owner was looking for her. There was a reward for the person who returned Gladiola. They would use the money to travel west.
Hey Laura! I loved your summary, but I think that you should add how Mr.D was Dionysus, the god of wine.
Chapter 7
MY DINNER GOES UP IN SMOKE
Word of the bathroom fight spread quickly.Percy, Annabeth, and Clarisse got thoroughly emberassed! After the unpredictabal stare Percy gets from Annabeth, he discovers that his dad is a god! He also learns that his dad might not claim him.Borders keep monsters and mortals out,but,when Annabeth tells him that a demi-god,named Thalia, didn’t survive, I got a little nervous.
Then, they talk about where Mount Olympus is, YADDA, YADDA, AND, YADDA! Next to that is Luke.Turns out that he is the son of HERMES. It is dinnertime! ( GROWL ) Let’s just say…………………..HE IS HUNGRY!!!!!!!!!!!! He’s about to TAKE A BIG BITE, but………everyone is getting up!What a shock. They were scraping SOME of their food in! ALL THAT PRECIOUS FOOD!!!!!
SO, outragiously,he did it too.AND, of course, he made a silent PLEA! (FLIP) Mr. D introduced Percy even though Dionosus ( Mr. D ) really didn’t care about introducing him. He also made an anouncement that CAPTURE THE FLAG was Friday. They whent on at the SING-ALONG.Pretty odd, isn’t it?!

Chapter 10 – I Ruin a Perfectly Good Bus
On Chapter 10, Percy and his friends set out for their quest.
When they are about to leave, Luke gives Percy his magical basketball shoes that will sprout wings if anyone says,
“Maia”. But, Percy soon relizes that he would be flying in the sky which was Zeus’s territory so, he gave them to grover. Chiron also gives him a gift from Percy’s dad, a ball point pen which transfers into a celestical bronze sword named ‘Anaklusmos’ in Greek, ‘Riptide’ in English. Chiron also says that the sword can’t harm mortals and the sword can’t be lost. Chiron also informs Percy with Mist which will cover up when monsters appear. When they arrive at the Greyhound Station on the Upper East side, Percy sees his picture taped onto the mailbox saying, “HAVE YOU SEEN THIS BOY”. Grover told Percy that his mom married Gabe for him. That Gabe’s human aura has been covering his half-blood scent. Then, the bus came and they climbed aboard noticing three old ladies and one of the old ladies looking very much like Mrs. Dodds. When they came into the Lincoln Tunnel, those three old ladies came down toward the back making an excuse about wanting to go to the bathroom. Percy disappeared in Annabeth’s New York Yankees cap so the Furies can’t get him. But soon, he decided that he coudn’t leave his friends behind and turned to face the Furies. After they battled the Furies, the lightning bolt crashed on the bus destroying it as Percy and his friends came out. A tourist in a Hawaiian shirt snapped a picture of him as he came out of the bus. Then, they ran into the dark forests ahead.

Chapter–6 I Become Surpreme Lord of the Bathroom
Percy finishes the tour that Chiron is giving him. He notices that the people in Ares’ cabin are very big and tough looking. He is assigned to Hermes’ cabin 11 where all the new capers go. Cabin 11 looked like an old, regular camp cabin and the others where very majestic. Clarrise was a girl from Ares’ cabin and her friends were coming toward Percy. They took him to the girls’ bathroom and started to bring his face to the toilet. Then, he felt a wierd sensation and the toilets shot water at the girls. Then the showers did the same. This flushed the Ares’ girls out of the room. Then, a person who was helping show him around camp and assigned him to Hermes’ cabin noticed he was sitting on the only dry spot in the room.
Chapter 14 I Become A known Fugitive
At the end of chapter 13 Echidna dared Percy to jump in the water and if he was a son of Poseidon Percy wouldn’t fear the water. So Percy jumped in and hit the water without a thing hurting him on his body and sank down to the bottom of the Mississippi. When when he grabbed his shirt it was perfectly dry. He snatched a cigarette lighter and it sparked with a flame. He grabbed a soggy hamburger wrapper and lit it and as soon as he lit go the flames sputtered out and it turned back to a soggy ra. He started breathing underwater. Then he heard a voice that sounded like his mother’s did, but all he saw was a ghost figure like his mother. The ghost said he needed to go tho Santa Monica beach it was his mother’s fate. So he went back to the arch which he caused the explosion of the arch. He found Grover and Annabeth and they all went back to the train station without a person seeing them and got on a train off to Denver, Colorado.

Chapter-13-I Plunge to My Death
Percy, Grover, and Annabeth head to Denver (they didn’t have enough money) on the train they got tickets for. They stop for a tour of the Gateway Arch. Annabeth explains she wants to be an architect like her mother Athena. Grover and Percy don’t want to go, but they couldn’t handle a monster as well as Anabeth. So they wait in line for a mile (UUUUUUUGGGGGHHHHHH BORING!!!) and finally get there. They ride up a small elevator and go up to the flatter part of the arch. That is the main room. On the way up, they had met a fat lady with a Chihuahua.
They spent about 20 minutes up there. They were going to go down and there was not enough room in the elevator so Annabeth and Grover go down and wait for Percy. (At this point when I was reading I already knew what was coming.) The other people left up there was a family of one boy and his parents, a park ranger, and the fat lady with her dog. Her forked tongue slithered at him. Forked tongue? Before he could think on that her dog growled at him.
She told the Chihuahua to attack and revealed she was the reptile Echidna, mother of monsters. The dog was her son. Did I say dog? Did I say Chihuahua? I meant monster and Chimera. Chimeras are like fire breathing, rabid, poisonous, Lions with really long Snakes for tails. It threw his sword away and she dared him to jump. The Chiua…..Chimera shot a hole in the floor.
Chapter 17 – We Shop For Water Beds
After they got out of the Lotus Hotel, Percy, Annabeth, and Grover got into a Vegas taxi. But the driver wanted to see if they actually had money so Annabeth gave him her LotusCash card and the infinity symbol came up next to the dollar sign. While they were riding at the back of a taxi, they talked about Percy’s dream about the black pit in the Underworld and Annabeth seemed to have suspected something but wouldn’t tell Percy or Grover. After they have arrived, Percy went underwater and found Nereid, a spirit of the sea who he have met on Mississippi River. They talk for a little bit and Nereid hands Percy three pearls that will happen at need if you crush them. They went on a bus to get to DOA but nobody seemed to know about it. When they were walking past the appliances-store when he saw Smelly Gabe interviewing Barbra Walters with a young blond women and lying about everything (seriously in my opinion, that Smelly Gabe is such a jerk!! I would like to strangle him if I could. But of course I couldn’t have done it because he is not real). After Grover pulled Percy out of the way, it got dark and a group of kids surrounded and Percy and he kind of made a wrong swing with Riptide on the head boy and it went right through him. While they ran for their lives, they noticed a store called: ‘Crusty’s Water Bed Palace’ and got inside. A man named Crusty showed them water beds but, as Grover and Annabeth layed down, the ropes came up when he said “Ergo” and tied them to the beds. Percy asked what his real name was and he answered that he was Procrustes The Stretcher who in the old days, tried to kill Theseus. Percy kept talking and fooled Procrustes (a.k.a. Crusty) into one of the water beds. Then, he cut off his head which he then turned into dust. After he turned Crusty into dust, Percy noticed the yellow flyer that said the adress to the DOA and they went toward the Underworld.
Chapter 8 summary- We Capture a Flag
In chapter 8, Percy has just gotten used to his daily routine at Camp Half-Blood. He has also realized that he is only good one thing – canoeing. In Ancient Greek he could stumble through a few lines of Homer without too much headache. In Archery Chiron didn’t complain when he had to desnag stray arrows out of his tail. Every time he got beaten by the wood-nymph instructors they would say we’ve had centuries of practice running away from lovesick gods. But it was still embarrassing being slower than a tree. Clarisse would pulverize him in wrestling every time he got on the mat. People at Camp Half-Blood were still trying to decide who Percy’s father was. Thursday afternoon Percy had his first sword-fighting lesson from Luke.None of the swords seemed to fit him.Luke tried to help him out but agreed that none of the swords quite fitted him.when class started, Luke demonstrated a disarming technique. First,he just does an example on Percy. Then, he tells Percy to actually disarm him.Percy gets his fiery feeling again. Clang! Luke’s sword goes down.”sorry”says Percy. “sorry? Show me that again!”Luke says to Percys astonishment. But Percy loses the second time.After class the cabins have a capture the flag game. Percy discusses their teams plan with Annabeth. “Clarisse always has a plan” Annabeth warns him.Percy gets into a fight with Clarisse. Percys team wins and they repaint the flag. After that Percy gets attacked by a wolf.they say someone had to have summoned it. Percy steps into a pool of water and his wounds start to heal. then a three-pointed spear appears above Percys head. They now know Percy’s father is Poisedon.
Ch.19
We Find Out the Truth, Sort Of
Percy, Annabeth, and Grover have made it to the Underworld. There was a parapet, and above it were three furies flying above them. All of a sudden Grover’s flying shoes sprouted wings and started to drag him across the ground! Grover, Annabeth, and Percy were all trying to stop the shoes and they had to sprint to keep up with Grover. They started to slide down a slope.
Grover was still picking up speed, when they saw a huge pit like in Percy’s dream. They stopped Grover just in time. There out of the pit came an evil sounding voice. They all started to run out the cavern. Soon after that, they came to a garden with statues of children, satyrs, and Centaurs. There were also strange looking mushrooms and fruit.
They walked up the path to the palace. When they entered the palace there were skeleton soldiers of all time periods and places. Then they saw Hades. He was about ten feet tall and wore a black robe and had a crown of braided gold. His hair was jet black and shoulder length. He spoke in an oily voice. Percy brought up the thunder bolt and Hades said that he didn’t steal it. ” Lies.” He would say. Hades told him to look in his backpack. Inside was Zeus’s lightning bolt! Hades got a ball of fire and threw it on the floor. There was Percy’s mom in a shower of gold. He wanted to save her with the pearls, but he handed one to Annabeth and Grover. They smashed the pearls at their feet. They found themselves in white spheres floating off the ground and rising up into the ocean.
Chapter 17- We shop for Water Beds
Great summary Stephanie!!!! You used great description! You forgot to say that the pearls had a price. Good job!!!!!!!!
Ch. 8 We capture the flag
Great summary Keijah, but I just have to add thet the “wolf” was a, well it is some kind of ________ hound. Percy also breaks Clarisse’s weapon and she gets really mad.
Chapter 15 – A God Buys us a cheeseburger
In this chapter Annabeth wants to contact Chiron. She finds a hose and shows Percy how to contact people far away by using a hose to make a rainbow. Percy can’t find Chiron but his “call” gets picked up by Luke. They talk awhile and then they “hang up”. Then the threesome find a local restaurant and sit down in a booth. As they are sitting down outside they see a huge man with extordinary muscles who Percy says could make any pro wresteler go run for momma. When this monster of a man sits down at there booth Percy starts to get uneasy. Percy soon finds out that rhis is Ares the powerful god of war. Ares wants Percy to retreive a sheild that he left in a hurry when his date with his girlfried gets iteruppted by somthing Ares dosn’t let them know it is. He says if they retieve it for him he promises them a ride out west.
